By Aaron Dube

Jabulani Nkani and his wife Zanele Nyoni of Cosmo City in Johannesburg were beaten and stripped of their clothes in front of the pulpit by members of Apostolic Faith Mission last week.

They laid a charge at Honeydew Police Station but no arrests have been made. It all started when Nyoni’s husband purchased a Samsung computer tablet on credit valued at R3,000.

The victim is believed to have promised to pay his friend the money as soon as he got paid. But his salary was delayed. “We were beaten and attacked embarrassingly by people we believed were role models in the community. The pastor and the church elders walked out of the building and they laughed at us as we were assaulted,” said Nkani.

“They tore my clothes off before proceeding to strip my wife naked next to the pulpit, we were only left with our underwear,” he added. “After this shocking ordeal church members ran away with my wife’s belongings including her handbag.”

“I can’t go back home because my passport was stolen and some money,” said Nyoni, who was on a visit to see her husband.

Church administrator Abed Nigo said they had called Nkani to discuss about the money he owed to other Christians but denied and was beaten.

Pastor Thokozani Ncube finally rescued the two victims by finding their missing belongings.
