Biti’s weight loss should not occupy our minds

One would think that any responsible journalist or gossip monger would confine such trivial issues to weight loss and healthy eating magazines. Judging by the look of things, Zimbabweans are craving for gossip magazines.

“MEN ‘S HEALTH” magazine is widely sold in South Africa and other western cities. It gives advice to men on how to gain or loose weight. In other magazines, stories of (celebrities) weight loss or gain entertain the eyes of the readers. The purchasers of such magazines are teenage girls.

Did Biti go for liposuction at Harley Street? Is the weight some determination on his part to lose weight. Is obesity good for one’ s health? What about a huge belly? Is it a sign of good living or utter laziness? Well, we should not be judgemental, sometimes people grow stomachs and lose body mass due to health issues.

Our people, I mean most of our people are either too fat or too slim. Have you noticed that? You won’t be surprised to see a grown up man who weighs less than 8 stones. Some of our policemen are very thin. I guess we should be thinking about how such people can enforce the law properly on empty stomachs.

I don’t think Biti’s weight loss should occupy out minds. If he is not eating in well, he will either work through it or waste away. If he is ill he should fly to Singapore to seek urgent treatment.

I thought most lawyers in Zimbabwe are paid good renumeration. Some high powered well known lawyers in New York and other (big) cities receive good commissions. If a lawyer is receiving peanuts, like any thinking person, the only alternative is to join the gravy train.
