Globe trotting Mugabe leaves for Malawi

HARARE – President Robert Mugabe left for Malawi yesterday afternoon for the country’s 50th independence celebrations set for Lilongwe today.

Mugabe was seen off at Harare International Airport by VP Joice Mujuru, Senior Minister Simon Khaya Moyo and Defence Minister Dr Sydney Sekeramayi, and was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi.

The President landed at 3pm at the Kamuzu International Airport and was welcomed by the Malawian Vice President Saulos Chilima and several top Government officials.

Also expected to arrive later yesterday for the commemorations was the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Mohamed Garib Bilal, among other leaders.

Malawi commemorates 50 years of independence today and President Arthur Peter Mutharika is expected to lead the nation in the cerebrations starting with national prayers and main cerebrations in the afternoon at the Civo Stadium.
