SDA church elder wrecked my marriage

By Liberty Dube

The marriage of a Mutare couple has irretrievably broken down as the husband (45) is accusing his wife (38) of having an extramarital affair with a senior Seventh Day Adventist church member.

Modern Mutsambi is not a happy man after siring four children with his now estranged wife, Eunit Mutsambi.

In an interview recently, the dejected Modern alleged that the SDA member at Chikanga East Church member, Partson Ncube, was having an affair with Eunit and was keeping on calling and “pestering” her and therefore disturbing and destabilising his marriage.

He further alleged that Ncube, believed to be above 60 years, was the cause of “tension” and confusion in his marriage since 2011.

Modern, of House Number 1659, Chikanga 2, was recently ordered by the courts to stop physically and emotionally abusing Eunit.

Said Eunit in her affidavit: “It started in 2003 when he accused me of having zvikwambo, which I was given by my father.

“He would beat me several times in September 2004. I am seeking protection order against Modern Mutsambi who came at our house to harass me and the kids.

“He destroys property. He speaks foul language, which is not good for the children. I am seeking a protection order over my children, property and the other children whom I look after when their mothers are at work,” reads part of her affidavit.

The application was described by Modern, a polygamist, as a farce and smokescreen meant to bar him from quizzing her about the alleged infidelity.

He said Eunit’s Nokia Asha phone had passwords and he was never allowed to touch it or do “anything”, something that strongly made him believe that she was cheating on him.

The Weekender learnt that Ncube and Modern once had a brawl in October 2009 over the issue and the latter was dragged to court for disturbing Ncube’s peace.

The court ordered Modern to keep peace towards Ncube and his family. He was also interdicted from calling her on her landlines or cell phone.

“I am a worried man. My marriage is on the rocks because I have realised that the two are now an item again. This protection order has been tailor-made to suit their evil machinations. They don’t want me to disturb their adulterous affair. They know that if there is a protection order there will be no way I could stop the affair. My wife no longer wants me to touch her phone and I am convinced that they are back together because they usually communicate over the phone.

“We once had a fight with Ncube a long time ago and he subsequently dragged me to court to keep peace and that I stop pestering him about the issue. There is tension in our marriage and my wife has changed her behaviour. I believe Ncube’s evil behaviour has also caused my misfortunes in my life because I have lost almost everything that I worked for in my life.

“I used to own Mutare Driving School and I had several kombis, but everything is now history,” lamented Modern.

He added that he loved his wife although he had another wife with three children.

He said strenuous efforts to conduct the church elders in Chikanga hit a snag several times.

In a separate interview, Eunit, who was emotionally charged, accused Modern of being an irresponsible man who occasionally harassed and emotionally abused her.

“He is a pretender and a coward that is why he came to you. He dumped me to stay with another woman in Penhalonga, yet he lies that I am in love with Ncube.

“I have never been in love with Ncube. He emotionally abused me. He left me to take care of the children alone and I toiled day and night to make sure that I brought food on the table.

“I am not adulterous. I am a prayerful woman. We got married and wedded tisina chatinacho, but we later acquired some wealth because of hard work. He went on to marry another wife and most of his property vanished.

“After all, I am a woman, ndinopfimbwawo nevarume. Kana ndiri hure, akadini kundidzinga? He is a violent man. I have applied for a protection order for the sake of my safety, at least if I die people would say I died while protecting myself.

“I go to church, but I will not tell you the name of the church. The truth shall come out,” she said.

When contacted for comment, Partson Ncube said he last had an altercation with Modern about six years ago during the Zimbabwe dollar era when he accused him of having an affair with his wife.

“I last heard about Modern six years ago when I would communicate with his wife over forex.

“He once accused me of having a relationship with his wife, but I am clean. Those were allegations which I don’t know about. Since then I have never talked to him or his wife. If I am pestering him or his wife, why can’t he make a police report over the matter,” said Ncube. The Weekender
