Alfa Logala, 21, had been in the company of his uncle Amos Logala, 35, practising illegal fishing at the lake when he met his fate.

Fish mongers said staff with national parks could have shot the illegal fish monger.

When H-Metro arrived at the scene, fish mongers were flocking to the scene while some took advantage of the situation to walk away with sacks of fish before the arrival of the police.

“We are fishing so that we get money to meet burial expenses of our colleague who was shot down by a national parks warden,” said Amos.

“The deceased paid US$50 bribe for illegal thirty minutes of fishing but after the 30 minutes were over he did not have enough fish to earn him the US$50 he had paid.

“The deceased was ordered by a national parks employee called Majasi to leave the fishing area and he ignored the order and I heard two gun shots before I saw Alfa’s body lying in the grass.

“Majasi had been drinking beer at the Spillway club and was armed before patrolling the area and we were surprised by his decision to shoot the deceased after he authorised him to fish after receiving money,” said Amos.

National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority spokesperson Caroline Washaya-Moyo could not give details although she was at the scene by the time H-Metro left saying she was still to receive the information

“We are waiting for police to get to the scene and I am still to receive detailed in formation concerning the incident,” she said. H Metro
