We will look up to Angel – Mugabe

HARARE – President Robert Mugabe yesterday said he will seek divine intervention in prophets like Uebert Angel if government policies fail to satisfy the people.
Speaking at his birthday celebrations at Rudhaka Stadium, Mugabe said where government fails, there was need to turn to the bible and particularly mentioned Angel who had given a short speech targeted at the youth just before the 90-year-old leader delivered his keynote address.
“We must do all we can as government and a people to work and where we fail, we ask for divine assistance and that’s where we need Uebert Angel who was here,” said Mugabe.
During his short speech, Angel urged the youths to take charge of their destiny by ruling Zimbabwe, in what could be concluded as an indirect message to the 90 year old President that he must give power to the youths.
“There is something there that we need to understand. One common denominator in humanity is that we are all human and that humanity is the problem, because as humans, we have imperfections.
“So it takes no genius to spot the imperfections of the other but it takes great resolve to see and identify what somebody has done and the best in another person. I therefore encourage the youth to see the best in our president, the best in our country. Take advantage of what is in our country and let’s rule Zimbabwe as youths.”
Angel’s remarks could be seen as controversial especially when he urged the youth to take only the best from Mugabe, unlike Zanu PF bootlickers who claim that the veteran Zimbabwe leader is perfect and flawless.
The popular prophet also went biblical in his message to the youth.
“In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. I want to encourage the youth that one thing God did and will never do again is to create the earth. God has already finished creating land and is no longer creating land.
“Since there is no more land being created, then there is an opportunity here that the government under this Current President has provided to the people. As youths, let’s be vigilant.
“Let’s take that advantage to take what belongs to us. All we have is Zimbabwe. We are Zimbabweans and Zimbabwean problems can only be solved by Zimbabweans. The African problem can only be better solved by an African.”
Angel immediately moved to explain that by speaking at a Mugabe birthday bash, critics would rush to conclude that he had been taken over by Zanu PF.
He said: “I understand from right now critics will be there. I think, after my speech something will be written ‘Angel swallowed by Zanu PF,’ as if they know where I was before I was swallowed. I grew up under a father who was and still is a strict Zanu PF member and along the way he gave birth to a sister who campaigned for the MDC, my father has not fired her from the family yet.”
He chuckled again exposing that tolerance and accepting different political views as his father did in not disowning his MDC daughter should be the only way forward.
Observers said in a way, Angel played and put himself in the middle in what has been called his usual complexity when tackling questions. Daily News
