As reported by Nehanda Radio, a memorial service for Melusi Mututa (16), who collapsed and died on the 19th of December, was cancelled on New Year’s Day after his mother Mary Mututa also collapsed and died while preparing to attend.

Former footballers Liberty Masunda (Blackpool, Kaizer Chiefs), Francis Nechironga (Caps United), Muzondiwa Mugadza (Zimbabwe Saints), Tendai Chieza (Mhangura), Sanudi Nambale (ZRP Tomlinson) under the ‘Zim Legends UK’ group attended the rescheduled memorial service at the Corpus Christi Church in Birmingham on Wednesday.

Speaking to Nehanda Radio, Masunda said they had been touched by the tragedy that had struck the family and had decided to chip in and contribute towards the funeral expenses.

Masunda said the ‘Zim Legends UK’ have so far helped when for example Canisius Tongesai (Blue Line Aces) lost his dad and Lovejoy Mugadza’s (Zimbabwe Saints) mother passed away.

“We are not a burial society but we do our best to help each other in times of need,” Masunda said, adding that the main objective of the group was to develop football in Zimbabwe and also look at the welfare of former players.

Other former players in the ‘Zim Legends UK’ include Memory Mucherahowa, Akshape Chimwayi, Ernest Mutano, Kenny Chihuri, Hubert Munjanja, Maxwell “MaRhino” Dube, Chamu Musanhu, Brian Badza, Frank Nyamukuta, Lloyd Jowa, Matambanashe Sibanda and Eugenne Langa.
