Police spokesperson for Midlands Province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko identified five of the seven victims as Admire Maphosa (30) who was driving the car, his mother, Tsitsi Maphosa (55), Delight Ndoro (25), her daughter, Mercy Ndoro and an uncle, Jeremianos Ndoro (40).

Seven people, including a three-year-old girl, died on the spot when the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle resulting in it side-swiping with a bus which was going in the opposite direction near Daylsford suburb, about six kilometres outside Gweru.

“All the five were related and were coming from a family event in Mberengwa. Police are yet to identify names of the two female adults who died in the same accident and it is still not clear whether they were related to the five or not,” said Insp Mahoko.

He appealed to members of the public who might be missing their relatives to come forward and assist the police to identify the two.

“All the seven were said to be on their way to Harare. Police are appealing to members of the public who might be missing their relatives to approach any nearest police station and assist us in identifying the now deceased,” he said.
