One of those behind the abduction has been identified as the son of Irene Zindi, an ex-combatant and former Zanu PF MP for Hatfield.

Chegutu West MDC-T parliamentary candidate Chalton Hwende told Nehanda Radio “our campaign team has been severely attacked by a rowdy group of about 16 Zanu PF thugs at a place called Pickstone here in Chegutu.”

Hwende said “several of our members have been injured and one of our team members Benito Tshuma has been kidnapped and is missing. Tshuma was pulled from a truck that was being used by my campaign team.

“We are actually at the police station. Please share and spread this message. We need to find our kidnapped comrade.”

“We are putting together a search party to go and look for Tshuma, we know the compound where these Zanu PF thugs came from and that will be our first port of call tomorrow,” Hwende told Nehanda Radio.

Meanwhile about 17 members of Hwende’s campaign team are currently being treated for various injuries.
