Tsvangirai never clashed with Biti over hotel suite: Magaisa

By Lance Guma

An advisor to Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has rubbished claims by the Zanu PF controlled Sunday Mail newspaper that the PM clashed with party Secretary General Tendai Biti over the use of a hotel suite in Mozambique.

The paper had claimed there was drama in Maputo, when Biti, refused to move out of the spacious presidential suite at the five-star Radisson Blu Hotel to make way for his party’s leader, Tsvangirai, who had arrived at the hotel a little late.

The pro-Zanu PF Sunday Mail newspaper also claimed “repeated efforts by senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, who had made the bookings, to persuade Mr Biti to move out of the presidential suite, proved fruitless.”

But Dr Alex Magaisa, a political advisor to Tsvangirai said the story was “a complete fabrication from the first letter to the last full stop.”

“It is a cheap and poor attempt to bury bad news; to create a fictional sideshow and distract attention from the Maputo outcome. None of the two stayed in a Presidential Suite.

“The writer of the story is not brave enough to say who he or she is, preferring to hide under the tag of “Sunday Mail Reporter”. It’s a complete lie and shows once again why there have been talks for media reforms. This is not journalism but creative writing,” Dr Magaisa added.

Over the weekend SADC leaders met in Maputo at a summit that discussed the political crisis in Zimbabwe. Leaders from Zanu PF and the two MDC formations in the coalition government attended the summit.
