Sally Nyanhewe’s (28), marriage to Evans Nyazema (38), is irretrievably broken with the former divorcing her husband when they appeared before Chief Negomo’s court in Chiweshe on Saturday.

Sally appeared before Chief Negomo together with her boyfriend Gerald Dungare (53), an auditor with Bindura Municipalty. Both Dungare and Sally pleaded guilty to adultery.

For bedding a married woman, Dungare was fined six beasts and two goats while Sally was fined three goats for adultery. The two were recently caught in a compromising position in Dungare’s matrimonial bedroom while Dungare’s wife was away.

Dungare will pay Evans six cattle valued at US$500 each and two goats valued at US$60 each while Sally will pay three goats before 29 June for adultery damages. Passing his Judgment, Chief Negomo warned members of the community to desist from adultery as a way of safeguarding cultural values.

He asserted that broken marriages caused children a lot of suffering. Sally, clad in black, confirmed cheating with Dungare whom she described as a man who caught her heart after she lost feelings for Evans. Evans and Sally have two children aged 10 and 4 together.

“I no longer have feelings for him and I started having sex with Dungare behind his back before I gave him a token of divorce in front of my relatives, said Sally.

“We married after he sexually abused me when I was young and my parents forced him to marriage after Evans reasoned with them and he has been abusing me all along. I feigned sickness whenever he requested to have sex with me before he took me to my aunt for treatment.

“I can no longer move on with him and I have collected all my belongings except the house which I am looking forward to having a share of its disposal. He consulted traditional healers over my sexual behaviour and that put me off and his relatives never accepted me in the family,” said Sally before the court.

Evans told the court that he was shocked to spot Dungare with his wife after Sally begged him for more time to get treated from her loss of sexual feelings with him before catching them in a compromising position.

“My wife used to fake sickness whenever I wanted to have sex with her before she finally denied me conjugal rights since November last year,” said Evans.

“I still love my wife and we have children to look after but Dungare lured my wife with a residential stand and a car and as we speak he is already teaching her to drive. Dungare has been causing my suffering and my children are not spared from all this,” said Evans.

Dungare was booed after telling the court that he was going to take Sally as his second wife to enlarge his territory. The two left the court holding each other’s hands followed by Sally’s aunt. Sally’s parents were reported to have refused to attend court in shame.

Some of the people that attended the hearing came all the way from Bindura following the publication of the story which left tongues wagging. Chief Negomo ordered Evans to register the house in the name of the children rather than selling it for Sally to get a share of the proceeds.

He also ordered both to look after the children.

However Dungare told H-Metro soon after the court judgment that he was going to appeal against the Chief’s judgment saying that he was unlawfully arrested and forced into his bedroom after he was caught with Sally drinking beer in his house.

“Evans must forget about getting those beasts from me and he does not deserve a beautiful woman like this one. Sally has the right to be married to me and is an adult so I am prepared to take her as my second wife,” said Dungare unremorsefully. H Metro
