MUTOKO – Hundreds of people thronged Chinzanga Beerhall at Mutoko Growth Point to witness arts groups from Mashonaland East as they competed in the Chibuku Neshamwari Dance Festival qualifiers.
Close to 15 groups took turns to fight for the sole ticket to qualify for the finals to be held in Harare. Two of the groups that put up vibrant, gallant and splendid displays were Zimbabwe Prison Service inmates Arts Groups from Marondera Prison and Murewa Prison (Mbende Yepasi Arts Group.)
Rarira Dendera, the group that won the festival at national level in 2011 emerged the winner. The group will represent Mashonaland East in Harare.
The two prison arts groups ran neck to neck for the second position which was later claimed by Mbende Yepasi which is led by Senior Prison Officer (SPO) Gashirayi Nyamundaya.
Their counterparts from Marondera led by SPO Gomba settled for third position and pocketed $200. Rarira Dendera and Mbende Yepasi received $500 and $300 respectively for coming first and second.
