HARARE – A motivational speaker, author, life coach and business consultant has been arraigned to court on allegations of sodomising a friend and church mate, three times after allegedly drugging the complainant on two of the occasions.
Rabison Shumba (39) was hauled before Harare magistrate Don Ndirowei where he faced aggravated indecent assault charges. Rabison will be back in court on April for his trial and he will be out of custody after he was granted US$200 bail.
The State, led by prosecutor Tungamirai Chakurira, alleged that on May 13 2008, at around 10am, Rabison sat next to the 22 year-old complainant (name withheld to protect his identity) in church- Celebration Church Zimbabwe.
It is said that the church’s pastor then gave a bible topic and he told the congregants to sit and study the topic in pairs, and the two developed a friendship.
Reports are that on July 13 the same year, whilst at their church, Rabison invited the complainant for a ride in his car and he gave him an orange drink which was mixed with alcohol and the alleged victim felt dizzy and weak.
State allegations are that Rabison then drove the car to an unknown house where the complainant is said to have gained consciousness before he injected him with an undisclosed drug.
It is said that Rabison then undressed the complainant before he sodomised him and warned him against revealing the ordeal, before driving him back to Celebration Centre.
On the second occasion, allegations are that on August 1 last year, the complainant was now feeling dizzy, he dragged him into the toilet, forced him to bend down and he again sodomised the 22 year-old. Rabison is said to have threatened the complainant with death if he was ever to reveal the issue.
On the third count, which is said to have happened on January 26 this year, the complainant is alleged to have been waiting for transport around 7am and he was then given a lift by Rabison.
Allegations are that Rabison drove him to an unmentioned place before sodomising him and dumping him along Enterprise Road, after threatening him against revealing the case.
The complainant is however said to have gathered courage and he told his mother what had been happening since 2008 leading to Rabison’s arrest.
