BOTSWANA – Tragedy nearly struck the Ndlovu family once again after former Zimbabwe coach and Highlanders legend Madinda Ndlovu survived a car accident after hitting a cow while driving from Botswana to Bulawayo early Thursday.
Only three months ago his brother Adam Ndlovu died in a horror car accident near the Victoria Falls airport. His other brother Peter survived the crash but a female companion in the car Nomqhele Tshili was not so lucky and died.
According to several reports Madinda was driving towards Gaborone shortly after 2am and was approaching the small town of Mahalapye when he smashed his Mercedes into a cow which was crossing the road.
The car skidded off the road but did not overturn, and Ndlovu who is currently manager of Botswana champions Mochudi Centre Chiefs walked away from the wreckage with minor bruises.
A spokesman for the family said: “He’s fine and talking. He is a strong character and doesn’t want everyone feeling too sorry for him. He would like everyone to know he’s fine.”
Meanwhile Madinda issued a statement on Thursday saying:
“My dear brothers and sisters I speak from deep down my heart in thanking u all for yo comments on my accident, may I put to rest speculations by telling the world that I’m speaking from my Gaborone base not any Hospital since I did not sustain any injuries from the accident which happened at about 3.00am”
