HARARE – Former Caps United striker Clive Kawinga has been accused of abandoning the one year nine months old child he sired with his ex-girlfriend.
The utility player, who is tipped to join his former team’s arch-rivals Dynamos following the expiry of his contract, was dragged to court by his former lover Tatenda Marimo over the maintenance dispute.
Tatenda was claiming US$190. Speaking through her legal team, Tatenda said she wanted her ex-lover to pay the amount inclusive of medical expenses.
“We had decided that he pays US$140 in maintenance excluding medical expenses as he would meet them when and as they arose. The father of the child is a soccer player earning about US$500 per month. He also runs a clothing shop where he realises about US$700 in profit per month,” she said.
But magistrate Rekinah Dzikiti advised her that there was a danger in separating the medical expenses, as the father of the child is likely to default when the money is needed. Tatenda, who also told the court that Kawinga is married with two other children, altered her claim to US$190 after adding the medical expenses.
Kawinga, who was recently spotted training with DeMbare, failed to attend court for the hearing. His absence forced magistrate Dzikiti to make judgement and order him to pay US$190 towards the upkeep of his child.
