Governor Dinha refuses to pay child support

HARARE – Zanu PF Mashonaland Central provincial governor and resident minister Martin Dinha is being accused by a Midlands State University (MSU) student of neglecting his biological son. 

Human Resources student Shingirai Makarudze is accusing the politician of failing to cater for the welfare of the eight-year-old boy.

Makarudze, who now resides in Bushmead Plot with her parents, told the Weekend Post that she has been struggling to look after Dinha’s son Tawonga as the politician was not helping her.

“I have never known peace with Dinha and he is threatening me. I have tried to talk to him so that he looks after his son and he is failing to do that. He is not even paying school fees for his son and his maintenance is sporadic,”said 28-year-old Makarudze.

She claims that she has received text messages from Dinha, expressing his intent to look after the child and also stating that he still loved her but never fulfilled his promises.

Makarudze claimed that she dropped out of the University of Zimbabwe in 2004 where she was studying Law after being impregnated by Dinha before resuming her studies later at MSU.

Dinha and Makarudze had a steamy relationship from 2003-2008, resulting in Makarudze getting pregnant and delivering a baby in February 2004. She claims Dinha has been threatening her with unspecified action, interfering with her private life and disrupting her new relationships despite ending their affair.

Makarudze said Dinha’s interference led to the termination of her relationship with her former boyfriend in 2008 and her marriage to another man. “He is very possessive and jealous of me to the extent that he does not want to see me being involved in any relationship with anyone, although I am not dating him.

“He also threatens anyone who enters into a relationship with me,”said Makarudze.

“When I met him he said he was not married. Dinha said he was divorced and claimed his wife, Mai Michael was in the United States of America, and I got involved with him after he had promised to marry me.

“My parents want him to own up on his deeds and pay damages for impregnating me. In 2008, he had agreed to pay the damages and to date he has not done anything,” said Makarudze.

Makarudze said whenever she contacts Dinha for maintenance money he makes fake promises. She claims Dinha is married to his first wife and has two children and was on talking terms with Dinha’s wife.

“We had a meeting with Maiguru Mai Michael and Dinha deliberating over the welfare of my child and she is aware of everything. “I don’t have problems with Amaiguru and she is aware of my son’s existence, “said Makarudze.

Contacted for comment Dinha said he was too busy to talk to the Weekend Post before saying extortion was at play.

“This is extortion my friend you must talk to your source, because she is extorting me,” said Dinha switching off his phone. — Weekend Post
