Man who battered Tino Katsande freed on $100 bail

The man accused of savagely assaulting former Studio 263 actress and ZiFM disk jockey Tinopona Katsande was freed on $100 bail after appearing in court before Mbare magistrate Reuben Mukavhi charged with domestic violence.

Katsande took to twitter a few days ago claiming “Was beaten up for asking him to help me clean the house by washing the dishes while I did the laundry.” She also posted several pictures of her bruised and swollen face.

But as prosecutors presented their case against her boyfriend and nightclub owner Brian Munjodzi, contrasting new details emerged. The court heard Katsande arrived at Munjodzi’s place at 8:30pm.

Prosecutor Mirirai Mavhemwa told the court Katsande proceeded to the bathroom, soon after entering Munjodzi’s house. Munjodzi allegedly called Katsande who told him she was tired and wanted to rest.

The court heard Munjodzi pounced on Katsande, pulling her hair. He allegedly slapped and kicked Katsande on the chest. Katsande allegedly bled from the nose and mouth as Munjodzi continued assaulting and strangling her.

The court heard Munjodzi continued assaulting Katsande despite a neighbour’s plea to stop. Munjodzi further slapped Katsande before ordering her to go and sleep. Katsande sustained facial injuries and she is currently on medication.

Magistrate Mukavhi remanded Munjodzi out of custody to November 29.
