Comedian Carl Joshua Ncube marries in the Bahamas

Zimbabwean stand up comic, Carl Joshua Ncube, last week married his long time girlfriend, Nelsy Mugadza, on an Island called Coco Cay in the Bahamas.

Carl revealed to radio DJs before his departure that both his and Nelsy’s families were angry about the planned marriage out of Zimbabwe, away from friends and family, but Carl has always been a man after his own mind.

He proposed to Nelsy Mugadza in front of several hundred people at his first major one man show, The Big Announcement, in 2010, surprising many who did not think he would pop the question.

Then at his biggest gig ever, held at the Rainbow Towers / Harare International Conference Centre, just over a day before he left for his trip to the United States and the Bahamas, he told about 1020 people that he would marry Nelsy during his trip.

Nelsy has been working aboard a luxury cruise ship for about two years now. She has stood by Carl’s side through his brightest and darkest times in the last few years. Before she left Zimbabwe she was instrumental in launching his career as a comedian, helping him market himself and sell tickets to his shows.

She was with him when he moved to South Africa last year with, as he told Zimbo Jam, just US$90 in his pocket. On Wednesday last week, October 10, 2012, Carl and Nelsy’s Facebook profiles revealed that they had tied the knot. They went on to post pictures of their simple but beautiful beach wedding.

Nelsy promptly changed her surname on Facebook, from Mugadza to Ncube. On Friday Carl summed up his sentiments with a one word post on the social media network, “Happy.” ZimboJam
