A KADOMA disc jockey was on Monday arrested for allegedly fatally striking a patron with a brick following a row over his choice of music.
Mthulise Mthunzi (23) of the Zimbabwe National Army, who was standing in as the DJ at a bar in Kadoma, had a row with Mesias Phiri.
Acting Mashonaland West police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed the incident and said investigations were still in progress.
“We are handling a matter in which a DJ at a bar at Martin Spur, Kadoma, Mthulise Mthunzi, struck a patron to death with a brick following an altercation over a song,” he said.
The row was sparked by Phiri’s demand that the DJ changes the music he was playing and play his favourite song. Mthunzi did not respond and this angered Phiri who grabbed a beer bottle and struck him on the forehead.
Miffed by Phiri’s action, Mthunzi chased him to a secluded place outside the bar where he reportedly picked up a brick and hit him at the back of the head.
Phiri fell down unconscious.
Another patron, Godfrey Kanengoni followed to investigate and found Phiri lying in a pool of blood.
He rushed him to Kadoma General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is still at the hospital awaiting a post-mortem. Kanengoni later made a report to the police leading to Mthunzi’s arrest. He is expected to appear in court soon facing a murder charge. The Herald
