Zimbabwe beat Burundi 1-0 in AFCON qualifier

Zimbabwe scraped through to the third round of the Orange 2013 African Cup of Nations qualifiers after a brave 1-0 battle against the “Swallows” of Burundi.

The lone goal of the match came during the 36th minute courtesy of Germany based striker Knowledge Musona.
The warriors lost 2-1 in the away leg making the aggregate scores 2-2 but move to the third round of the qualifiers as a result of the away-goals rule.
The match presented huge tension for fans who feared that if Burundi scored, then they would go through. But Zimbabwe held on to their lead until the full 90 miutes, makin it to the next stage of 2013 qualifying.
Burundi kept knocking at the Warriors’ door, with Tapuwa Kapini makin a crucial save, pushing a long-shot from Gilbert Kaze over the bar with 10 minutes to full time.
Zimbabwe were down to ten men after midfielder Willard Katsande was sent off for bringing a Burundi player down in the goalmouth in an off-the-ball incident.
Just before half-time Oscar Machapa nearly got a second for Zimbabwe as Burundi keeper Janvier Ndikumana spilled a free-kick. Full match report later…………….
