Tsvangirai introduces new wife to Mugabe
Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai formally introduced his fiancée Elizabeth Macheka to President Robert Mugabe and Vice President Joice Mujuru at State House. The introduction took place shortly before the routine Monday meeting of Principals in the coalition government.
Sources present at the meeting told Nehanda Radio.com that Ms Macheka later emerged from State House together with VP Mujuru. Tsvangirai’s spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka said the PM customarily married Macheka and a ceremony was held in Buhera last week to welcome her into the family.
“It’s true that the Prime Minister introduced his wife to President Mugabe and VP Mujuru today. It’s his wife. The PM did this out of courtesy because as a public figure, it’s not good for him to introduce his wife at a public function or a funeral,” reports quoted Tamborinyoka as saying.
Tsvangirai has just returned from the United States where he had a family get together with his children Edwin, Garikai, Vincent, Vimbai, Millicent and Rumbidzai. Also present were his sons-in-law — Batsirai Gava and Kelvin Nyarota and daughters-in-law Lillian and Diana.
The PM’s wife Susan Tsvangirai was killed in a highly suspicious car crash in March 2009. Tsvangirai and his wife were travelling to their rural Buhera home when a truck slammed into the right side of their Land Cruiser, causing it to overturn 3 times. Susan was flung out of the vehicle before it landed on her.
Last month Tsvangirai engaged to local businesswoman Macheka at a private function at the La Serenata Restaurant in Highlands. Tsvangirai said he is keeping marriage on hold until after elections. Macheka, a 35-year-old beauty, has been lovers with Tsvangirai for over a year now.
