The Bulawayo Agenda pressure group will this Saturday be hosting a ‘peace soccer tournament’ involving the four rival political parties in Zimbabwe. The Tsvangirai MDC, Ncube MDC, Zanu PF and Zapu are all reported to have confirmed their participation.
The matches kick off at the Amakhosi Ground in Bulawayo’s Gwabalanda suburb from 09:30 to around 15:30hrs. Bulawayo Agenda said the tournament was part of “a quest to instill a culture of tolerance and co-existence among the citizens of Zimbabwe.”
The motive of the tournament is to promote peace and calm especially at a time when the country is facing a possibility of a highly contested general election, Bulawayo Agenda said. The tournament will also be graced by representatives of the Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee (JOMIC).
Bulawayo Agenda is a civil society organisation that conducts advocacy on issues of democracy. It is committed to providing an apolitical platform for people to express their views and debate on matters that affect their lives. An anti- violence petition shall also be signed during the tournament.
Everyone is free to attend and support.
