Disaster struck on Tuesday in the morning when seven people died on the spot and 25 others injured when the Toyota Coaster minibus they were travelling in rammed into an oncoming Nissan UD truck belonging to Montana Meats.
The driver of the minibus, heading into the Harare city centre from Budiriro, lost control at a sharp curve near the fly-over along the Simon Mazorodze Road. This resulted in the collision with the truck travelling in the opposite direction.
Police spokesman Oliver Mandipaka said “according to our preliminary investigations, the Toyota Coaster driver encroached into the lane of an oncoming traffic resulting in a collision,” he said. Eyewitnesses say the minibus driver was speeding.
Members of the public played a big part in rescuing the injured people before the ambulance and paramedics arrived. The road was stained with blood and people’s belongings were strewn all over.
