MDC-T Director General Toendepi Shonhe came out fighting on Wednesday when he appeared before a party disciplinary committee investigating allegations of misconduct and abuse of office levelled against him.

Shonhe, and fellow MDC-T worker Sandra Mutsimba both married, were caught red-handed by Mutsimba’s husband (Simbarashe Mawisire) who had booked into the same hotel in Bulawayo. Shonhe is alleged to have assaulted the husband during a scuffle. Police in Bulawayo confirmed he was arrested for assault.

Last week the MDC-T moved swiftly to suspend Shonhe and Mutsimba to pave way for the investigation. A three member committee, comprising two National Executive Committee members, Norman Mabhena, Lucia Matibenga plus Harare lawyer Innocent Chagonda, is carrying out the investigations.

On Wednesday Shonhe and Mutsimba appeared before this committee Mr. Chagonda’s offices and asked to make separate submissions before the committee deferred the matter to a later date. The party says the investigation will look into whether the two violated ‘the MDC code of ethics and values that should guide all MDC officials, elected, appointed and deployed.’
