UK based Zimbabwean singer Cynthia Mare has expressed her disappointment that fellow Zimbabwean singer and X Factor contestant Gamu Nhengu did not make it through to the live finals of the ITV talent show.
Speaking exclusively to Nehanda Radio.com Mare said ‘I was really disappointed to see that Cheryl (Cole) did not put Gamu through to the X-factor live finals. I believe in fairness and if Gamu had not performed well I would have understood.’
‘Not only were her performances brilliant, she also came across as a sweet, really likeable girl with a big dream who is willing to work hard to get to the top. Cheryl gave two spots away to girls who had buckled under pressure.’
‘Gamu was a breath of fresh air to the X Factor. Her powerful, soulful voice, cuteness, likeability and quiet confidence would have seen her go far and also complimented the show. She was definitely missed on the first live show last Saturday where some of the performances were not great.’

Mare herself is not new to talent contests having entered the UK talent contest Live and Unsigned in 2009. She was in line to win a £20,000 recording contract after sailing through the earlier rounds. The show was eventually won by Glaswegian five piece band The Detours.
Coincidentally Zimbabwean group B-Kay and Kazz won the Live and Unsigned contest in 2007. Their UK debut single “You know it’s right” released by Future Music went to Indiestore number 1 from March to May 2008 and Top 5 in the DMC World Hip hop chart in June.
