Four awaiting trial prisoners and two convicted prisoners escaped from the Musina police cells on Monday morning, Limpopo police said. The six, all from Zimbabwe, sawed through iron cell bars after 1am, Lieutenant Mohale Ramatseba said.

Police did not know how they got the saw. Two were convicted and sentenced on Friday. Knowledge Muleya, 28, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for possession of an unlicensed firearm and Chiwari Matimore, 23, was given three years for housebreaking and theft.

The four others were accused of crimes ranging from murder to robbery. Anyone with information can contact Captain Ringani on 082-729-1093 or 08600-10111. – Sapa
