Zimbabwe international striker Benjani Mwaruwari put the disappointment of being axed from the national team by sealing a one year deal with English Premiership side Blackburn Rovers. There is also the option to extend the contract by a further 12 months.
The former Portsmouth and later Manchester City striker has been training with Rovers since his release from Eastlands in June. Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce had previously made it clear they knew what Benjani was capable of on the pitch but it was only his troublesome knee that they were assessing.
“Benjani has shown us he will be OK to play for us in the Premier League,” Allardyce said on Friday. The 32 year old Zimbabwean is now expected to face Arsenal at Ewood Park on Saturday. After 4 goals in 23 league games for City he will be desperate to rediscover the form that made him a hit at Portsmouth.
