Higher Education Minister Mudenge seriously ill
Headlines, News — By admin on July 14, 2010 2:03 amMinister of Higher and Tertiary Education Dr Stan Mudenge is seriously ill and recently suffered a heart failure. A report carried by the weekly Financial Gazette said the Zanu PF Minister was admitted at the Avenues Clinic’s High Dependency Unit (HDU), in Harare for eight days after being diagnosed with cardiac failure and has not resumed duty.
His current condition is not immediately clear although the report said he had been discharged on Saturday.
“Mudenge was admitted on June 25 at 11:01 hours after arriving in an ambulance under heavy security guard. He had suffered a cardiac failure and had to be quickly taken to the resuscitation room. After resuscitation, he was then taken to the HDU where he was admitted until last Saturday at 12:50hrs,” said the source at the clinic.”
The source went on to tell the Financial Gazette that, “Although he was discharged, it was evident that he still felt pain and I believe it will take time for him to get active in the office.” Mudenge has not been reporting for duty for several weeks now sparking objections from students who say they are suffering because the Minister is focussing on his health issues.
Several years ago the country’s Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) launched a manhunt for gay activist Dumisani Dube after he made a stunning disclosure that he had a love affair with Mudenge. Dube also claimed Mudenge infected him with the deadly HIV virus several years ago.
Relatives close to Mudenge concede his health has dramatically deteriorated over the years and he was literally ‘in the departure lounge.’
