A Zimbabwean man who bombarded a salon in the Scottish town of Aberdeen with nuisance calls said he was “provoked” because a stylist would not fix his hair. Frank Mokgatla called the H2O shop 20 times in just two days because he was “dissatisfied” with how his hair had been cut.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court had previously heard the 35-year-old Zimbabwean citizen made 20 silent calls to hairdresser Alicia White at the H2O salon at 86 Great Northern Road, Aberdeen, between May 12 and 14 last year. Ms White called BT who contacted the police who were able to trace the calls to Mokgatla’s home address, which was listed in court papers as Flat 8, 28 Market Street, Aberdeen.

Mokgatla went to the salon in April last year and asked for braids. Ms White told him his hair was too short, but he said he wanted them anyway. He claimed he started making the calls to her because his hair was left in a mess.

Speaking outside court, sporting a neat short back and sides, he said: “I wish I hadn’t made the calls, I see it was a stupid thing to do now. But I was angry and I wanted to disrupt her day in the way she had mine. She made my hair look stupid and I was embarrassed. I shouldn’t have done it but I was provoked.”

He added the experience has put him off going to any hairdressers. He said: “From now on I am doing my own hair at home.” At an earlier hearing Mokgatla had admitted making the calls, which caused “annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety”. Sentence was deferred for four weeks for background reports. Press and Journal.co.uk
