Lets remember Susan Tsvangirai by speeding the process of opening democratic space in Zimbabwe.
The Friends of Zimbabwe (FZ) wishes to celebrate the anniversary of the tragic passing of Susan Tsvangirai by urging SADC to respect the democratic principles and practices which Zimbabwe cadres including Susan, died for.
As we join the entire Zimbabwe Community in remembering the Mother of the Nation, the late wife of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, we remain committed to the construction of a democratic Zimbabwe which can once more take its rightful place in the community of nations.
Zimbabweans are simply demanding international assistance to effect a free and fair environment in which they may elect a democratic government of their choice.
Susan died whilst in the middle of a struggle to wrestle Zimbabwe from a stagnant political quagmire.
The greatest favour SADC and the international community could do for our late mother Susan is to assist in the opening of democratic space in Zimbabwe through facilitating free and fair early elections in Zimbabwe.
Susan Tsvangirai died in a car accident last year on 6 March while in transit with her husband to their Buhera rural home. A huge truck contracted to a Zanu PF functionary rammed into the couple’s vehicle forcing it to roll-over many times.
She died on the spot while Morgan Tsvangirai sustained injuries.
