A University of Zimbabwe student ran amok and damaged a vehicle belonging to her former boyfriend after she caught him with her sister around midnight near the family home in Avonlea.

Tendai Mrerwa, who was allegedly ditched by the man for her sister, became livid when she saw the two in the man’s top-of-the range BMW that was parked outside the family home.

Mrerwa has since appeared in court charged with causing malicious damage to property. She was not asked to plead to the charges when she appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Jackie Munyonga.

Mrs Munyonga remanded her out of custody to February 18 this year for trial and allowing her to sit for some examinations. The complainant in the case is Clement Marange of New Marlborough, Harare.

Appearing for the State prosecutor Miss Memory Mukapa is alleging that on December 16 last year, at around 11pm Marange parked his vehicle at Tendai’s place in Avonlea and Mrerwa allegedly went into the house where her sister Abigail followed.

While they were seated in the house, the State alleges, Mrerwa took a knife and walked out of the house. She allegedly went to the parked BMW and stabbed its three tyres, damaged two rear view mirrors and scratched the car paint right round with a knife.

Marange, who failed to restrain her, made a police report leading to Mrerwa’s arrest. TH
