On issues relating to ZINASU, SASCO implored ZINASU not to remain only as the vanguard of the students’ alone but the Zimbabwean community at large raising objectively critical issues affecting the working class of Zimbabwe. The congress noted that xenophobic attacks are to the advantage of the capitalists because they are a weapon in the competition between capitalists of different nationals and are a means of dividing and weakening the working class.

The congress condemned in the strongest of terms the phenomenon in South Africa, calling on all Africans to unite for real emancipation and progress in the fight against capitalism and in the vanguard march of progress towards the African Renaissance.

SASCO and ZINASU to this end committed themselves to join hands, work closely in finding ways on how the students’ movements can play a critical role in ridding this evil among our communities.

On the political situation in Zimbabwe

SASCO has been consistent that the will of the people tested through democratic processes which are free and fair and therefore any settlement or government must enjoy the confidence of the people as a whole, it was on this basis that the government of national unity was founded on wrong basis and therefore from its beginning was doomed to fail. The stability in Zimbabwe must be facilitated through democratic elections.

To this end the Zimbabwe National Students delegation headed by National Spokesperson Blessing Vava and National Coordinator will address members of the media at a press conference in Johannesburg at Devonshire Hotel on Thursday 10 December 2009 at 1200hrs.
