Zimbabwe Tourism Authority boss Karikoga Kaseke is embroiled in a maintenance wrangle with a Harare woman who is claiming that he is the father of her daughter.
Millicent Muchabaiwa is claiming US$1 000 a month from the ZTA boss for the upkeep of the 14-month old child whom she alleges Kaseke sired.
The maintenance case was supposed to have opened on Thursday at the Harare Civil Court but it was struck off after Muchabaiwa failed to appear in court for the hearing.
She was called on three occasions but failed to appear for the court session, leading to its striking off the roll.
This is the second time the matter has failed to take off after it was postponed on November 4 this year when it emerged that Kaseke was on official business in China.
Kaseke’s lawyers Mutumbwa, Mugabe and Partners rubbished the claims saying Muchabaiwa had also reported a case in which she claimed the ZTA boss raped her 18 times at unspecified lodges and hotels.
“Plaintiff maliciously and falsely made a police report of 18 counts of rape.
“Our client managed to prove that on the said dates he was at one time in Singapore and at the other in Goromonzi at a Zanu-PF conference,” said Kaseke’s lawyers.
They also said their client was prepared to undergo DNA tests to prove that the baby in question was not his.
The lawyers also argued that Kaseke had no legal obligation to take care of the child and dismissed claims by Muchabaiwa that he earned US$10 000 a month.
They said Kaseke earned a monthly salary of US$1 000.
