APA-Harare (Zimbabwe) Zimbabwe cricketer Hamilton Masakadza has joined the elite group of the world’s best batsmen after he smashed the 11th highest score in one-day international (ODI) cricket history, APA has learnt here.
Information released Tuesday showed that Masakadza’s career-best score of 178 runs against Kenya on Sunday propelled him towards the top of the group of leading batsmen in the world.
The cricketer’s exploits led Zimbabwe to a 142-run win over Kenya in the final game of a five-match series between the two African nations. Zimbabwe won the series against Kenya 4-1 on Sunday.
Masakadza joined compatriot Charles Coventry among the world’s best batsmen in the shorter version of the game.
Coventry is joint leading batsmen in ODI cricket with Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar, with a career-best score of 194 runs the Zimbabwean smashed against Bangladesh in Bulawayo in August this year.
Anwar had held the record for the world’s best ODI batsman since May 1997 until Coventry equalled the feat two months ago.
