Another injury blow for Benjani

Zimbabwean captain and Manchester City striker Benjani faces a six-week lay-off – ending his chances of a move to get out of the shadows of Mark Hughes’ squad.

Benjani’s proposed switches to Hull City, West Ham and Portsmouth collapsed and he was hoping to team up again with Sven Goran Eriksson at Notts County on loan to get his sharpness back.

However the hardworking Zimbabwean has now been ruled out with a nagging thigh problem and he is unlikely to be playing – or moving – until the start of November.

Last week Portsmouth admitted they were put off signing Benjani over worries about his nagging injuries.

Ever since his move to Man City in the January 2008 transfer window, injury has ensured Benjani never got the chance to cement his place in the team.
