West Ham United Football Club missed out on a deadline-day deal for Benjani.

The Zimbabwean international is well down the pecking order at Manchester City, and he was heavily linked with moves to Hull City and former club Portsmouth in the summer.

However, the Daily Mail claim the Hammers also tried to sign Benjani on deadline day, but the move couldn’t get off the ground as they failed to contact the player’s agent.

This comes as another blow for manager Gianfranco Zola, who saw his top target Eidur Gudjohnsen quit Barcelona for Monaco, whilst Marouane Chamakh stayed at Bordeaux. Source: Fans FC.com
