Benjani could be heading to Rovers

Reports suggest Manchester City striker Benjani could be heading to Blackburn Rovers.

Sam Allardyce is desperate to bolster his strikeforce after selling Roque Santa Cruz and Matt Derbyshire this summer but has decided not to continue his interest in Real Madrid’s Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Veteran former Italy international Christian Vieri is currently on trial with the club while Allardyce continues to be linked with Tottenham’s Darren Bent.

Benjani is surplus to requirements at Eastlands following the recent purchase of Santa Cruz and struggled with injuries last term.

The former Portsmouth forward also faces competition for a starting berth in Mark Hughes’ side from Valeri Bojinov, Craig Bellamy and Felipe Caicedo.

The Zimbabwe international has scored six goals in 25 matches for City after finding the net 19 times in 77 appearances for Pompey. Source: Football Fan Cast.com
